Pigford vs. Glickman was a class action lawsuit brought against the United States Department of Agriculture in which it was argued that racial discrimination against African-American farmers had played a role in the allocation of farm loans and assistance between 1981 and 1996.On 14 April 1999, the case results in some $1billion US dollars being awarded to over thirtheen thousand farmers and represents the largest civil rights settlement to-date.
