2007
Jamaica
In February 2007, the Member of Parliament for Central Clarendon, Mike Henry, calls for parliament to develop a common position on the impact of slavery and the matter of 'reparation for the countries of the displaced descendants of slavery'.A select committee is established to consider the resolution and make recommendations for action, but at the end of the parliamentary session, the committee ceases to exist. Henry's resolution nonetheless marks the first step towards coordinated parliamentary action for reparations in Jamaica.
