In May 2017, the Comité International des Peuples Noirs (CIPN) files a case against the French state calling for a committee of experts to examine the extent of the harm and need for reparations connected with the island's history of enslavement under French rule.Filed at the Tribunal de grande instance (Regional Court) in Basse-Terre, the case echoes that undertaken by the Mouvement International pour les Réparations in Martinique.
