The Church of England apologizes for benefitting from slavery

On 8 February 2006, during the church's general synod, the Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, calls for the issuing of a formal apology from the Church of England for the role it played in benefiting from enslaved labour. The call is unanimously passed, but stops short of endorsing any specific calls for reparation.
